Shakh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister of the UAE, attended the celebration of Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation in Abu Dhabi and awarded 90 organisations for their humanitarian work and efforts.
The event, which took place on July 6 at Emirates Palace, was held on the 11th death anniversary of the late Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. As part of Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, various establishments were awarded, including, ADNED, ADNOC, GASCO, ZADCO and Etisalat among 85 other organisations by Shaikh Abdullah, who credited them for their immense contribution to the humanitarian efforts that the foundation envisioned to achieve.
The ceremony began with a prayer by a young boy, followed by the UAE's National Anthem and a short film, commemorating the foundation, focusing on the success the foundation has achieved throughout the world. From the emirate, to mosques in China and schools in Kenya, many voices were heard any many visions were seen.
The documentary also gave viewers an insight into the global impact that the foundation has had on the underprivileged. An example was The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan School in Kenya, which was built over 30 years ago and now named as the most prominent school in Mombasa and Coast Province. Audiences at the ceremony watched as a man, who has now become an Ambassador, spoke about how he was once a young boy educated at the school.
Shaikh Abdullah spoke of the importance of charity and humanitarian work, whether in the UAE or in impoverished parts of the world. He commended organisations who continue to show support towards a vigorous cause.
"The continuous support of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and follow up of Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and His Highness Shaikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, to the initiative of Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, made it a national landmark in the UAE's annual humanitarian agenda and occasion to compete for launching charity and humanitarian initiatives locally and externally," he said.
Various officials also attended the ceremony, which was followed by an Iftar at Emirates Palace Ramadan tent.
