Sheikh Mohamed welcomes Eritrea, Ethiopia leaders

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, accorded a ceremonial welcome to Eritrea's President Isaias Afwerki and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday.
Cabinet ministers, ambassadors based in the UAE, dignitaries and top government officials were also present.
The two East African nations recently ended their two-decades-long animosity by accepting a U.N. brokered peace deal that has led to the opening of the borders, re-establishing of diplomatic and economic ties.

The leaders of both the countries signed the peace pact in the Eritrean capital, Asmara, on July 9 ending one of the longest-running conflicts in the African horn.
The UAE is believed to have played an important role in brokering the peace between the two countries.
