Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, the Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), hailed the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Center team on their mammoth breakthrough, launching KhalifaSat - the UAE's very first 100 per cent engineered and developed satellite, which launched into orbit on Monday, from the Tanegashima Space Center in Japan.
During the FNC session held at the headquarters in the Capital on Tuesday, Dr Al Qubaisi said the phenomenal accomplishment marks another historical and proud moment for the UAE and its people.
"Science is a component that will continue to survive and it is the foundation of the people of the Union."
Dr Al Qubaisi pointed out that the UAE is moving forward in its cultural and scientific mission, creating hope and inspiration for others, adding that the nation is a pioneering model that inspires future generations to achieve massive accomplishments.
"The satellite is made by Emirati hands and under the supervision of the UAE Space Agency. It emphasises on the efficiency and excellence of each individual and his ability to take responsibility, to embody the dream of the UAE and its people, and to join the global leaders in the space industry."
She pointed out that the launch of KhalifaSat will also empower future generations to achieve more historical milestones for the country.
"This achievement is the result of the vision of our wise leadership, which has been preparing for the post-oil years, by building a knowledge-based economy and engaging strongly in the applications of the Fourth Industrial Revolution."
Dr Al Qubaisi added that the space sector will become a key component in the national economy.
She stressed that the space sector will help build national talent in the field, with a focus on science, technology, engineering, mathematics and the consolidation of a national culture that encourages innovation.
"On behalf of the Federal National Council, I have the honour to extend my sincere congratulations to our wise leadership, led by The President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and the members of the Supreme Council."
