A special digital application available on iPads possessed by external marriage officers can now help you register your marriage contracts without visiting the Abu Dhabi main courts.
The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) said the new smart service being used by external marriage officers is available at all their outer offices located across the emirate.
It is aimed at streamlining and fast-tracking the issuance and registration of marriage contracts, the department said.
Officials said the application allows registration of the marriage contracts to be completed using the iPad after obtaining the necessary data of the couple and witnesses. "Registration of the marriage contract is done quickly and effectively using a card reader device," said the department.
The card reader records all the documents required for the marriage contract and then immediately issues the contract through the device connected to the electronic system of the judicial department.
"The new smart service is quick and very effective and helps reduce the time people spend at the offices waiting to register their marriage contracts," said judicial officials. "The judicial department is keen on easing all services for our customers through the use of new technological services."
A total of 4,100 marriage contracts have been registered in Abu Dhabi from January to September this year, according to figures released by the ADJD.
Of these, 1,743 were registered at the judicial department headquarters, while the remaining were executed by marriage officers in other offices across the emirate.
The ADJD employs 40 marriage officers to complete and register marriage contracts at 10 marriage contracts sections in the emirate.
The department of marriage contracts also provides other services, including answering questions about marriage for all nationalities, offering pre-marriage awareness lectures and guidance, and counselling couples with family disputes.

How the service works

>On iPads at the external offices, select the marriage contract registration app
>Input the data of the couple and that of witnesses
>Use the card reader to submit all the relevant documents
>Once all these are verified, the contract is issued instantly through a device connected to the judicial department's e-system
