An Indian association is conducting a unique theme-based summer camp to support holistic development of children. The Indian Islamic Centre's (IIC) 'Insight' summer camp saw more than 160 children of four age groups learn about the teachings of the UAE's founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
"With the theme 'Day of Sheikh Zayed', we focused on the four values - respect, wisdom, human development and sustainability," said camp director T Salem.
IIC general secretary Karappath Usman said the camp helped children explore and learn new things. "The children published four volumes of 'Insight' magazine. They compiled reports, edited them, made layouts and page settings. The magazine is made available at the centre," Usman said.
Talking about the themes, camp co-director Shaheen Ali said it will help each child personally and academically in future. "One of the themes was 'Sustainability is achieved by social responsibility' with sessions on qualities of leadership and empathy. 'Team work for creative output' saw a 500-metre huge drawings being made together by children. There was a session on aviation sector by a captain from Etihad Group and another by the community police. 'Healthy relationship for better future', 'Dare to face public' were among other themes."
