A former Abu Dhabi resident was killed in the New Zealand terror attack on Friday that claimed 50 lives, his mother confirmed in a post on social media. The 35-year-old, Hussein Hazim Hussein Pasha Al Umari, was born in Abu Dhabi, but migrated to Christchurch with his family in 1995.
The deceased was performing ablution when he was gunned down.
His mother, Iraqi calligraphy artist, Janna Ezat, confirmed in a tweet that Al Umari had died.
"Our son was full of life and always put others' needs before his," his mother tweeted.
She had earlier taken to Twitter to seek her son's whereabouts after he failed to return from the Noor Mosque.
He used to work in the tourism sector and was unmarried.
