Abu Dhabi's Court of First Instance gave a young girl from the GCC a permit to get married with her fiancée, after her father refused without valid reasons.
Case documents show that the girl had brought action against her father in the Sharia Court, demanding the right to marry her fiancée, after she tried all possible ways of convincing him to accept the man - who has proposed many times. The father claimed that he refused due to the age difference between them, and because he didn't have a job, hence the man couldn't provide for his daughter.
The attorney Maged Al Galaf said that the girl submitted her request to the court with advice and counselling from her family. She also provided a conviction status certificate issued by Abu Dhabi Police. And a certificate that shows the couple doesn't have any health problems that might affect their marriage, Al Galaf added. He explained that the witnesses' testimonies have also showed that the fiancée is suitable for the marriage and he has good morals.
The attorney said that according to the law of personal status, the judge has the right to allow a woman to get married if her father refuses without any reasons, explaining that the marriage would work if both are equal where they can find happiness.
