What is it about the weekends? In this part of the world - and I'm guessing in most parts of the world- weekends are not to be messed with. They are a sort of sacrosanct space that overrides all mundane, worldly concerns. With the new year that has just been ushered in - Happy New Year, everyone! - maybe it's time to ask ourselves: will our weekends change? Will we be trying to make them more constructive by spending quality time with loved ones instead of being glued to our smartphones? It's a brand new year, so why can't this be a New Year's resolution? I've, myself, pondered over this, and I realise I spend way too many hours doing absolutely nothing - nothing - on my weekends. Maybe I should finish that book I bought at the Delhi airport and become more erudite. Or start watering my plants resolutely. Or make new friends, and catch up with old ones. I fear that - despite my realisation - I will continue to be slothful, and (probably) do nothing much on the weekends in the new year. But this tussle is worth a mind game. Which is why we thought of bringing you a debate over 'Will your weekend change in 2016'. Hear both sides of the story. I'm rooting for the one who says weekends will not change for her...
This issue also gets a bunch of folks who take stock of their lives in 2015 and tell us why the year has been a game-changer. Gotten married? Switched jobs? Had a baby? Did something extraordinary? Check for all.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, our cover girls, would have, undoubtedly, drawn a laugh out of you with their funny girl acts. After starting out on Saturday Night Live, they're the best of friends and at their best when they're together. Takes two to tango, they say. Bollywood does some crystal ball gazing, and looks at the releases lined up for 2016. It promises to be a bonanza for film lovers. Films to look forward to? Wazir and Raees for me.
Have you ever felt that gluten-free was a terrible way to be - in the culinary sense - and that you often missed out on the best things on the dining table? I have a friend who is gluten-intolerant, and I feel sorry for him at times because whenever he is eating out, he needs to ensure the restaurant serves gluten-free stuff. This time, Kitchen Classics is all about gluten-free recipes; what's better is that they all sound and look like they're gourmet fare. I'm definitely presenting an issue of this week's wknd. to my friend. It'll be my New Year's gift to him. In Travel, we go to the Peruvian town of Cusco, the gateway to Machu Picchu.
Enjoy reading wknd. and have a great weekend!
