Man jailed, faces deportation for selling damaged car in Abu Dhabi

He was found guilty of defrauding another person by selling him a damaged car that was no longer allowed on the roads.

A motorist who was convicted of intentionally selling a used-car with technical defects in the body chassis to another person has been jailed for two months. The car couldn't be registered by the traffic authorities.   
The Federal Supreme Court in Abu Dhabi upheld earlier rulings by lower courts that handed down the sentence to the Asian man after he was found guilty of defrauding another person by selling him a damaged car that was no longer allowed on the roads. 
Official court documents stated that the victim had filed a complaint to authorities after the car failed to pass the inspection test because it had defects in the body chassis and was rejected for registration by the traffic authorities. 
The man had bought the used-car from the defendant residing in a northern emirate at Dh6,700 and told him that it had some minor mechanical problems which he will easily fix. 
The vehicle failed the inspection test when taken for inspection test to transfer its registration license.  The inspection technician told the man that the car had major faults in the body chassis caused by rusting and that it could not be allowed to be registered because it wasn't safe.
Prosecutors had charged the man with commercial fraud and cheating another person by selling him a car with major defects. The man had denied the charges claiming that the car had only minor mechanical faults and that he wasn't aware of the defects in its chassis.   
Both the first instance court and the appeal court found the man guilty of the charge and gave him two months jail followed by deportation.
The man challenged the rulings of the UAE's top court which has maintained earlier rulings. He will be deported after serving his jail sentence.
