The General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA) announced on Wednesday that over 10,000 people in Dubai have availed the UAE visa amnesty during the first week.
Brigadier General Khalaf Ahmed Al Ghaith, Director General Assistant of Follow-up Sector of Violators and Foreigners in Dubai said tens of millions worth of fines have been waived off during the first week of the amnesty.
A total of 3,422 visas were renewed, and another 2,107 new sponsor applications were issued.
The total number of transactions that Amer centers across Dubai have processed were 5,500.
However, 2,809 people cancelled their visas without going forward with their applications.
"We get a lot of cases where people cancel their residency without requesting an outpass or modifying their status," said Al Ghaith.
The GDRFA urged applicants to finish their applications to avoid paying fines.
"Violations apply starting from the visa cancellation date. So if someone cancels their visa and fails to modify status, they will be subject to Dh25 a day for residency violations and Dh100 for entry permits violation," Al Ghaith said.
"Please make sure you finish your application and make good use of the visa amnesty period to avoid fines," he said.
