After successfully rebooting Marvel Comics’ popular superhero with 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man, director Marc Webb reunites his leading pair of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone for the sequel.
Jamie Foxx replaces Rhys Ifans as the new villain in town, playing the supercharged Electro, while Dane DeHaan (who himself had superpowers in the surprise 2012 hit Chronicle) plays the suspicious Harry Osborn.
Garfield’s Spider-Man must fight to protect New York alongside Stone’s Gwen Stacy – a partnership which the latter has described as, “he’s the muscle, she’s the brains”.
Reviews suggest that if you enjoyed the first blockbuster movie, you’ll be happy with this one too.
“The plot gets itself tangled up in multiple villain strands, but in the main this installment is emotionally weightier and more satisfying than its predecessor,” said Leslie Felperin of The Hollywood Reporter.
“[Garfield] could hardly do better than Emma Stone as his dream soulmate – she’s button-cute and smart enough to steal his heart. They light the film up with a sparkle and sadness it couldn’t live without,” said Tim Robey of The Daily Telegraph.
