Continuing the legacy of a classic cinematic franchise, this $70 million animated musical is based on a book by Roger S. Baum, great-grandson on Wizard of Oz creator L. Frank Baum.

Dorothy (Lea Michele) is transported from Kansas back to Oz to help defeat a new villain in the form of the Jester (Martin Short) alongside all of her old friends from the magical land.

Despite an impressive vocal cast – which also includes Kelsey Grammer, Dan Aykroyd and Brian Blessed – the film has flopped with audiences amid awful reviews.

“Legends of Oz feels like the opposite of the original film. Underneath its aggressive distractions and dim ideas, it has no heart,” said Rafer Guzman of Newsday.

“The bricks are still yellow, but the road doesn’t lead anywhere special,” said Adam Markovitz of Entertainment Weekly.

Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return currently has a 16% rating on rottentomatoes.com and a 6.7/10 rating on imdb.com.
