Minister calls Kerala CM, assures UAEs support to flood-affected state

His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, UAE Minister of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, telephoned the Chief Minister of Indian state of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, and conveyed the condolences on behalf of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, as well as of the Government and people of the UAE, for the victims of the floods in Kerala that have claimed more than 320 lives and left over 150,000 people homeless, in what has become the most devastating floods in the state in a century.
Al Gergawi wished all those injured a speedy recovery.

He additionally discussed the relief requirements of the state with the Kerala CM. He said that the directives of UAE's leaders were to provide all forms of support for those affected in Kerala and to unite all efforts in the country towards relief and aid operations.
Plans are also underway to support the Indian government in its endeavors to contain the disaster and help all the victims of the natural disaster, in the spirit of the brotherly and historical ties between the two countries.

Sheikh Khalifa yesterday directed the formation of an urgent national committee chaired by the Emirates Red Crescent Society and humanitarian organizations in the country, with the help of the Indian community in the UAE to aid the flood victims in Kerala. Several humanitarian organizations immediately responded to the President's directives, along with many private sector institutions operating in the country.
