Magna to set up 2 plants in Gujarat

Canadian auto component maker Magna International Inc, which has nine factories and four engineering centres in India, will set up two new plants in the country with plans to commence production next year.

The renowned contract manufacturer has picked Sanand township, Gujarat’s auto hub near Ahmedabad, for its two units — one for manufacturing seating systems and another for making body-and-chassis systems.

Magna has a body-and-chassis plant in Pune from where they cater to various activities for automakers such as GM, VW, M&M and Tata Motors. The company also has a Body and Chassis plant in Chennai for stamping, welding and assembly for Ford and Nissan.Its vacuum pump facility in Bengaluru caters to customers such as Maruti Suzuki, Honda Cars India, Mahindra & Mahindra, Renault Nissan and Tata Motors. The company also said in a statement on its website that with the two new Gujarat plants hiring 600 employees, it would be well-positioned to support increasing vehicle production forecast for the Indian auto sector.In a separate release on Tuesday, Magna and Indian conglomerate Tata Group’s automotive supplier Tata AutoComp Systems Ltd said they had agreed to form a joint venture in Maharashtra to supply seat systems for Indian commercial vehicle makers.
