Dubai — Skipper Zishan Khan’s run-a-ball 40 and two crucial wickets enabled Multiplex International down Emarati Warriors by 39 runs in the Group C match of the 4th Interface Transworld Ramadan T20 Cricket Tournament at the Fairgrounds of the Dubai Men’s College, a Press release said.
The month-long tournament is being organised by Dubai Cricket Council.
The Warriors’ skipper Amin Farooq won the toss and invited Multiplex to take first strike. His decision was almost justified by his bowlers after they scalped five batsmen to have Multiplex struggling on 43 for 5.
The burden now rested on skipper Zishan’s shoulders to carry Multiplex out of a crisis which he did with aplomb.
The middle-order batsman struck two mighty sixes and a four and with Razik Khan proving an able ally at the other end the duo put on 61 runs for the sixth wicket.
Zishan departed after scoring 40 off 40 balls and Razik blasted a six and four fours in his quickfire 29-ball 37 to help Multiplex post 132 from their 20 overs.
But the Warriors’ batsmen made a mess of a not-too-stiff target. Only Wasim Bari (29) and Baber Malik (17) could get into double figures after man of the match Zishan and Imran Haider scalped four top-order batsmen, while Mohammad Insan wrapped up the tail with four wickets for 20 runs.
Lanka Lions lost their third straight match in Group B after they went down to Fly Emirates by 21 runs.
Batting first, Fly Emirates rode on knocks from Krishna Chandran (39) and man of the match Nigel Fernandes (30 no) to post 125.
Lanka Lions made heavy weather of the chase. Except for a fighting 42 (34b, 1x6, 4x4) from Shane White none of the other batsmen were able to hang in there and see their team home.
