After the squad was announced recently, the junior boys have been undergoing rigorous training under the watchful eyes of coach Aaqib Javed.
The team is further bolstered after they put some impressive performances against two top Test playing nation Pakistan and England in the recently finished Tri-Nation series. The series which was held in preparations to the Asia Cup and Under-19 World Cup in the UAE, saw the hosts spring a surprise defeating England by a convincing margin. Javed said: “The boys have been really doing well. All the hard work we have put in so far is paying off.

“The players used to wonder why we used to make them work so hard and now they have understood how it’s working in their favour,” the coach added.

The Under-19 Asia Cup will feature eight teams with the UAE placed in Group A along with India, Pakistan and Nepal. Group B has Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Malaysia. The UAE will play their second match against Pakistan on Sunday, again at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium before playing the final group match against Nepal in Sharjah on Tuesday. The top two teams from each group qualify for the semi-finals while the final will be played on January 4 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
