The GCC Youth Games to be hosted by the UAE will have 12 disciplines, the UAE Olympic Committee confirmed, on Tuesday.
The Games will be held from September 15-21 and will include pistol and rifle shooting, equestrian events, judo, athletics, swimming, archery, boxing, table tennis, taekwondo, sailing, rowing and cycling.
"The younger generation must have more such events to lead themselves into mass recreational and healthy activities in their lives. This is an investment for the future under the guidelines of our leaders," said Dawood Al Hajri, assistant secretary general and Omar Abdul Rahman, executive director of the UAE National Olympic Committee.
Meanwhile, the UAE NOC officials also reviewed the progress of the UAE contingent for the sixth Children of Asia Games in Sakha Republic in eastern Russia from July 5-17, 2016. A delegation from the UAE had visited the main venue to assess the facilities and Games infrastructure.
Al Hajri said: "The trip and discussions mean the development of joint cooperation and we praise the attention accorded to the youth, placing the UAE at the fore when it comes to supporting the youth to represent the nation."
"We appreciate and follow the guidelines set by the president of the UAE NOC and it illustrates the attention to leverage the role of youngsters. Further, the launch of the School Olympics here, and the decision to hold the GCC Youth Games are further proof in this direction," he added.
