The number of women playing golf has doubled this year at Troon Golf-managed Abu Dhabi Golf Club and Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, thanks to a number of new initiatives introduced by the clubs specifically targeting women.

The number of lessons taken on the tee by women has doubled this year compared to March 2011, with many going on to become seasoned golfers on the course.

Abu Dhabi Golf Club’s ‘Golf in the Garden’ events routinely attract a large crowd of ladies, many of whom are playing golf for the first time, whilst Saadiyat Beach Golf Club accommodates growing female demand with regular ladies coaching groups each week.

Daytime rates, ladies-only golf clinics and competitions are attracting more and more females to the course, shifting the now outdated stereotype that golf is predominantly a man’s game.

Danny Jakubowski, Director of Instruction at Abu Dhabi Golf Club, said: “We’ve recently seen a massive shift in the number of women playing golf on the course. Families regularly come to enjoy a round of golf together, which coincides with our Troon family golf initiatives which provide complementary access for the kids with a paying adult.

“I had one group of ladies tell me that they would come to enjoy a round of golf while the dads stayed at home to look after the kids – this would never have happened without some of our initiatives.”
