Team Ajmal and Gulf Healthcare, cruise home

A strong display of batting and bowling firepower by Gulf Healthcare International and Team Ajmal launched the activities of the inaugural Dulsco Super 8 corporate cricket tournament, according to a Press release.

With 16 corporate teams vying for the top honours, Dulsco Super 8 is aimed at discovering and encouraging some of the best cricketing talent from among corporate teams in the UAE. The 16 teams are placed in 4 groups consisting of 4 teams in a group.

The 8-a-side teams will be pitted against each other to play 8 overs each side. The top 2 teams from each group will move into the knockout stages, with professional umpires supervising all matches.

Among the first day matches, Gulf Healthcare opting to bat first against Starsline amassed 133 runs in their allotted 8 overs, losing only one wicket in the process. In response, Starsline could muster only 32 runs, while losing all their wickets. The star of the match was Maqsood Hussain from Gulf Healthcare who scored 39 runs off 16 balls - the highest individual score in the tournament so far.

In their match against Khidmah Giants, Team Ajmal made 62 runs for 4 wickets, after opting to bat first. Ajmal’s bowlers then followed it up with their impressive bowling spells, bundling out Khidmah Giants batsmen for only 22 runs. Khurshidul Alam from Ajmal took three wickets, giving away a mere four runs.

The match between Dnata and National Air Cargo (NAC) saw a nail-biting finish till the last ball. Defending a low score of 49 runs, Dnata saw their opponents cruising along to victory, until Dnata captain Sreekumar bowled a brilliant spell in the penultimate over giving away just 1 run to deny NAC their much-needed victory by six runs.

Other winners on the first day included Cyclingas, Inaya, Dutco, Khidmah Falcons and DB Schenker, who registered easy victories.
