After a goalless first half, Kim Jung Woo fired home a long range shot which hit the hands of veteran keeper Motaz Abdulla en route to the open net with only 15 minutes remaining from the final whistle of the closely contested confrontation. The Commandos ‘Al Shaab’ were reduced to ten-man in the 69th minute when Essa Ali was sent off for his second yellow card in the space of three minutes.

With a one-man advantage and fifteen minutes remaining on the clock, it took something very special from Sharjah midfielder Kim Jung Woo to break the deadlock in the hotly-contested derby. The Korean launched a dipping strike from 30 yards, which had too much sting and power on it for Al Shaab goalkeeper Mutaz Abdulla to stop despite getting a hand to it.

The goal sent a packed home section of the Sharjah Stadium into rapturous celebrations, which continued at the final whistle as the home side took all three points.

In another clash of the Thursday’s late night encounters, Dubai and Al Wahda played to a 1-1 draw at Al Aweer Stadium in Dubai. The home team took the lead thanks to a perfectly executed penalty kick by Dramane Traore, but Al Wahda fought back to level the result and share the spoils with their hosts. Al Wahda keeper Adel Al Hosani brought down Jehad Al Hussain inside the box and striker Dramane Traore made no mistake from the spot to make it 1-0 to Dubai in the 40th minute. Tagliabue eventually levelled for the visitors in the 64th minute, with a goal scored in bizarre circumstances. Al Wahda were reduced to 10 men in the 84th minute when Mahmoud Khamis was sent off for his second bookable offence, and the visitors had to survive seven minutes of additional time at the end of the match, but despite the numerical disadvantage they could have snatched a win late on but Jamal Abdallah was equal to Marco Estrada’s shot.
