Dubai — The last minute pairing of Rory Thomson and Purna Sharma produced convincing displays to win the June edition of the Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club BMW Members and Guest Social event, held last weekend.
Although the pair play fairly regularly together, golf professional Purna was called from the staff accommodation ten minutes before the start of play as Thomson’s original partner, Jaydeep Sarkar, cancelled due to illness.
This proved extremely fortuitous for Thomson as the pair recorded three birdies in the first five holes. A bogey 4 on the par 3, eighth hole stalled their progress slightly but a gross 34, net 33.6 in the pairs Texas Scramble format combined with a best of the day Betterball total of net 31 on the back left them with an insurmountable total of 64.6. Ennori Paoli and Martin Duff won the afternoon division after 9’s of 34.1 and 33 to return a very creditable 67.1.
Other pairings to collect prizes were Sunny Ramadas and Mike Robson, Dave McGrath and Joe Marshall, Ove Pedersen and Roy Holmes and Sidhart Bahal and Sinar Suraj. Novelty prizes were also collected by Michael Pierse, Namir Al Naimi and Ennori Paoli.
