Pro League’s inaugural awards show on May 26
The Pro League Committee will host the Etisalat Pro League Awards on May 26 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre (Adnec), signaling the first awards ceremony staged since the professional league was founded, according to a Press release.
The awards ceremony will celebrate and honour the standout successes of players, coaches and clubs during the 2012-13 Etisalat Pro League season with nine awards, namely: Emirati Player of the Year, International Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Young Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Top Scorer of the Year, Professional Club of the Year, Fantasy Football Manager of the Year, and Fans’ Player of the Year.
The awards categories of Emirati Player of the Year, International Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year will involve industry voting to determine the winners, with media institutions nominating a shortlist of 5 candidates per category. Once the shortlist, as voted by the media has been determined, the team manager, coach and captain from each of the 14 Etisalat Pro League clubs will cast their votes from the shortlisted candidates and the Awards Technical Committee will tally the final votes.
The winners of the awards categories of Top Scorer of the Year and Professional Club of the Year will be decided based on the statistics of the Etisalat Pro League’s top scorers table and AFC club licensing and ranking criteria respectively, as confirmed by the PLC Technical Committee. There will also be an award for Fantasy Football Manager of the Year, whereby the manager of the highest-ranked team in the recently-launched online Etisalat Pro League Fantasy Football platform will be honoured for their achievement, and finally the public will have the opportunity to crown the winner of the Fans’ Player of the Year award by voting online using the dedicated Facebook app on the official UAE Pro League Facebook page.
Speaking about the announcement of the Etisalat Pro League Awards, chairman of the Pro League Committee and chairman of the Executive Office Mohammed Thani Murshed Al Romaithi said: “This is the first time since the inception of the Pro League that we will host a grand awards ceremony to celebrate the great performances and efforts made by our players, coaches and clubs, and it will not be the last, as we fully intend The Etisalat Pro League Awards to be held on an annual basis.”
Noting the preparation that has gone into establishing the first awards ceremony, the chairman added: “During the planning of the Etisalat Pro League Awards we decided it was key to involve media, clubs and fans in the voting process, to enable everyone who is involved in the Etisalat Pro League to have an input in honouring the top achievers of the season.”
