Pakistan’s day-night five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka moves on to the iconic Shaikh Zayed Stadium on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi. After two thrilling opening rounds, the better equipped Pakistanis lead the series 2-1 after their convincing victory on Sunday night in Sharjah.

Pakistan have a 11/11 W/L record from their 22 matches played at the Shaikh Zayed Stadium, while Sri Lanka have won once in the Capital. The weather forecast is the predictably dry and hot sunny afternoon with a cool wintry night on Christmas. The dew factor will be a point of discussion for the captains during the team meetings when it comes to as to who will have to bat or field last.

The star of the series so far - Mohammad Hafeez – is at his fluent best and his 140 not from 136 balls for his highest ODI score in the third ODI, tilts the scales in favour of the Greens for the remaining two ODIs in the Capital. Hafeez also put up a classy ton in the opening match a week ago and he is fortunate to have in-form batsmen up the order to build the foundation in time for the slog overs.

Ahmed Shehzad’s quickfire 40 from 26 balls added meat to the Pakistani innings in the third ODI.

All of a sudden the otherwise efficient and penetrative Sri Lankan attack looks disjointed and with a surprisingly poor show by the islanders while fielding made Pakistan’s efforts easier on Sunday.

A trump card for the hosts is Umar Gul, whose pace has reduced but the experience and guile of the nippy pacer paved the way for the win in the third ODI.

Back in the side after sitting out in the early part of the tour, Gul who is recovering from a knee injury bowled with a lot of zest and fire to restrict the natural stroke making abilities of the Lankans.

Gul’s 3-19 was supplemented by the bowling efforts of the young and fast southpaw Junaid Khan, the wily Saeed Ajmal with his unreadable straight ones and doosras. Shahid Afridi is always at hand to deliver his bit, eager and dependable as ever after all the years of ‘boom boom’ service from him with the bat and ball.
