Otermans steals show

BERLIN — Top Arabian horses owner and trainer Huub Otermans stole the limelight after the Dutchman saddled Poulain Kossack for the Shaikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Listed Cup under lady jockey Jadey Pietrasiewic before he teamed up with English amateur rider Emily Jane to claim the sixth leg of the Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship (IFAHR) astride Phraseur Kossack at the Hoppegarten Racecourse in Berlin on Sunday evening.

Both events are held under the umbrella of the Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Flat Racing Festival organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, coordinated by Abu Dhabi Sports Council in association with Emirates Racing Authority (ERA), IFAHR and Arabian Horse Society, and supported by General Authority for Youth and Sports Welfare and Fegentri with Emirates Airlines as the official carriers and sponsored by Invest AD, Al Rashid Investment, Areej Al Ameerat, Mauzan, Al Awani General Enterprises, Kabale, the UAE’s General Women’s Union, the Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition 2012, Wathba Stud Farm and the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club.

UAE hope Shathra Al Hajjaj aboard hot favourite Terach El Damawi had every chance to end her Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship series drought, but the young lady dropped the whip in the last two furlongs to finish close third.

“He’s a lovely horse and was picking up nicely. At one stage, he looked like a winner, but what has happened thereafter was something unbelievable to me. I don’t know how I have dropped the whip and when this has happened,” she said.

However, the ATR TV presenter Emily Jane broke well and went directly to the lead to make virtually all and hold courageously when she was attacked by Blitters Plonja under Diana Lopez close home. “I would like above all to thank Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak for bringing us together in this world championship series.

The UAE Ambassador to Germany Mohammed Ahmed Al Mahmoud valued the initiative of Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak, pointing out that the series have made their job easier in enhancing the relationship between UAE and Federal Republic of Germany. Asim Mirza Al Rahama, UAE Ambassador to Poland said: “I would like to thank Shaikha Fatima bint Mubarak for her strong support and backing for the ladies sport which gave the women a strong boost.?

The same opinion was echoed by Obaid Salim Al Zaabi, UAE Ambassador to the UN in Geneva.

Abdul Rahman Ghanim Al Mutuwai, UAE Ambassador to UK said: “The support of the President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai for equine sports has contributed to the development and enhancement of the relationship between the UAE and other nations.”

Shaikha Najla Al Qasimi, UAE Ambassador to Sweden said: “The Shaikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan Global Arabian Racing Festival has carried the UAE culture, history and heritage to the rest of the world.”
