Dubai — Multiplex International scripted a thrilling one-wicket victory against Global Distribution in the  14th Dulsco Ramadan Cricket at the Zabeel Park Cricket Ground Dubai, on Saturday night.

In a thrilling contest which saw the advantage switching to either sides on a number of occasions, Multiplex owe their victory to their last pair of Imran Haider and Qader Ahmed as they held on to their nerves to snatch victory with 21 balls to spare. Requiring eight runs for victory after being 95-9 in pursuit of Global Distribution’s 102, Haider and Ahmed thwarted the rival bowlers to remain not out on eight and three respectively as they guided the team home to spark celebrations in their camp.

Starting the run-chase, Multiplex did not get the best of the starts as they lost openers Syed Zishan (15) and Raziq Khan (2) at the score of 24. Sandeep Singh (15) and Aklaq Bhatt (12) managed to take the score to 41 before they both departed in quick succession. Sandeep was the first to go and five runs later Aklaq followed him. Seven runs later Ahmed Shoukath was scalped by Murtaza to put Multiplex in dire straits at 53-5. Multiplex needed someone to fight it out and they found three with Irfan Zakar (12), wicketkeeper Mohammad Shafik (14) and Zishan Khan (13) putting up a stiff resistance and inching the team closer to victory. However, with the trio’s dismissal followed by two more wickets, Multiplex were staring at defeat before Haider and Ahmed pulled them out of the woods.

Earlier, Global decision to bat first seemed to have backfired as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Abdulla Haq started the slide by sending Yakoob Richi (12) at the score of 19. Qadeer Ahmed’s dismissal of Yusuf Butt (7) made it 24-2. But it was Shoukath who triggered a mini-batting collapse for Global Distribution. The Multiplex bowler sent Abdul Hafeez (10), M. Boota (8) and Mohammed Ahmed (3) packing and Global never recovered from those strikes. Qasim Butt (1) too perished soon making it 45-6 to hand the advantage to the rivals. However, some lusty hitting from lower order batsmen helped Global to cross the 100-run mark. Tariq Ahmed (18), Shafakat Ali (13), Mohammed Rashid
