Dubai — Dipesh Makwana was the day’s overall winner at the 23rd edition of the prestigious Dubai Duty Free Golf Cup here at the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.

With a whole host of scores under par among the 98-strong field in hot and humid conditions over the weekend, it needed something extra special to prevail and Emirates Golf Federation (EGF) member Makwana produced it with a superb total of 41 Stableford points.

Hot on Makwana’s heels was Dubai Creek ace Max Burrow, who had a magnificent gross score of 67 and a points total of 40, which was comfortably enough to give him the sought-after best gross prize.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to Dubai Duty Free and Dubai Creek for their efforts in hosting such a great event and I’d also like to thank my playing partners for keeping me going out there,” Makwana said after clasping the tournament trophy.

The battle for honours in the Men’s Division was a keenly contested affair, with Stuart Murray ultimately emerging as the winner with another score of 40 points. Mal De Morgan took the runner-up spot with 38 and his better back nine score edged out Dubai Creek captain Joe Ghossoub, who finished in third place.

EGF lady member Satnam Kaur took the Ladies’ Division crown with a superbly-constructed 38 points. Dubai Creek’s lady captain Harini White came second courtesy of a hard-fought level par round of 36 and the same club’s vice-captain Vanessa North was one stroke behind White in third spot to complete the podium picture.
