Dubai — Two late partnerships saved the day for GMW Royal as they recorded a fine 31-run victory over Edible Arrangement in a Group C match of the 41st Bukhatir League for Interface Cup 2015. The tournament is organised by the Sharjah Cricket Council.

Opting to bat first after the coin turned in their favour, GMW Royal lost opener Shahid Saddique even before opening the account. Farhan Baber (13, 24b, 1x4) and Usman Mushtaq (12, 218b, 1x4) saw through the early phase to add a difficult 31 runs from eight overs. But things turned bad for GMW Royal when Romesh Perrera dazzled with the ball running through the middle order leaving them in trouble at 52 for six.

A shattered GMW Royal were lifted by a fine half century from Mohammad Tariq who also shared a crucial 89-run partnership for the seventh wicket with Bilal Khalid. Despite the collapse, Tariq executed his shots to perfection smashing eight boundaries and two sixes during his brilliant 49-ball 62.

Khalid played the perfect second fiddle scoring a 43-ball 33 including two boundaries and as many sixes. But at 153 for eight GMW Royal were still not in a good situation after Perrera finished with a five-wicket haul from his 10 overs.

Qassim Butt and Abdul Moid completely changed the scenario as the duo shared a vital 96-run association for the ninth-wicket that put GMW Royal in a firm position. Butt largely dominated the proceedings facing 60 deliveries to score a fine 69 peppered with six hits to the fence and two over it while Moid’s patient knock of 41 came off 48 deliveries with two fours and an identical number of sixes.

Khurram Saeed plucked both the wickets to ensure GMW Royal did not play their complete quota of overs to finish at 262 in 45.2 overs. Mohammad Faizel was the other bowler who claimed two wickets.

Chasing a challenging target, Edible Arrangement got off to a brilliant start with openers Abdul Shakoor (36, 34b, 5x4) and Kumara Prashanth (55, 37b, 9x4, 2x4) adding a quick 98 runs for the first wicket in less than 12 overs.

Mohammad Zaman (31, 61b, 1x4) and Isham Ghouse (48, 78b, 4x4) further consolidated the score as the duo milked 76 runs for the third wicket.

At 183 for three in 35 overs and needing another 79 from the remaining 15 overs, it was difficult to imagine Edible Arrangement could have lost way.
