ANR team manager Vijay Rao confirmed on Tuesday that his two racers, Karim Al Azhari and Clemens Schmid, will not be deterred from racing against each other and neither will receive preferential treatment in the garage, paddock, pits and – crucially – on the radio.

“We have two number ones and we will not be looking to manipulate results,” said Rao, the general manager of Porsche Centre Dubai, Al Nabooda Automobiles.

“Karim and Clemens share equal status as far as Al Nabooda Racing is concerned and they will both be racing to win – or finish as high as they can – in each race.

“We’re focused on team aims and objectives and team orders won’t come into play. Of course, both drivers will be trying to win races, but the main aim is to end the season as the number one team and Karim and Clemens are committed to helping us achieve that objective.”

Abu Dhabi-born Al Azhari, who won five circuit racing titles with ANR between 2005 and 2009, added: “As individual drivers, we both want to win races and – of course – we would both like to win the drivers’ title. The 12-round Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East begins its fourth season on November 16 and 17 with the first of six race weekends taking place at Bahrain International Circuit.
