Indian School down Model for U-12 title

Dubai — Sailles Jaishankar and Arran Fernandes shared a century stand to power Abu Dhabi Indian School to a nine-wicket triumph over The Model School and emerge champions in the UAE Exchange Centre Abu Dhabi inter-school under 12 tournament.

Chasing 121 put up on the board by The Model, the two openers set about their chase in clinical style in under 13 overs to set the platform for their team’s thumping victory at the Shaikh Zayed stadium.

Jaishankar hit half-a-dozen fours in a top score of 56 in 45 balls while his opening partner Fernandes, 43 not out off 40 balls (4X4’s), saw his team through with Nathan D’Mello, who smashed the first ball he faced to the mid-wicket fence for six to complete the win.

D’Mello took two early wickets and Rohin Bajaj provided another double blow to have The Model struggling at 28 for four.

Abdul Hannan (28), the opener, and Faheem Abdul Salam (25) added 45 for the fifth wicket. Nooran Thakur, in his second spell, provided the breakthrough by getting one through Hannan’s defence.

The U-12 final was the third of the four age group competitions sponsored by UAE Exchange Centre and conducted by the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council in association with the Emirates Cricket Board.

The Cambridge High School won the U-19 title for the fourth successive year and Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Pakistan School emerged winners of the U16’s.
