The flagship event of the Indian Golfers Society, which marks the start of the society’s season of activities, is aimed at providing a platform for amateur golfers to network and interact within a cosmopolitan community.

One of the unique features of the event is that since its inception no golfer has ever won it back to back. Attribute it to the intensity of the competition or the rising standards of Indian golfers, the tournament throws up a new winner each year.

“The Indian Independence Cup is one of our major events and the overwhelming response to it each year only reflects on the great sense of camaraderie among the participants,” said Sudesh Aggarwal, chairman of the society.

“Once again we expect to see a full field battle it out for honours in a festive atmosphere. I wish all the players the very best,” said Aggarwal, who also thanked Chivas, AGMC, Bank of Baroda, Kohinoor and BDO Patel for their continued support to the event. The tournament will follow the individual stableford format with a three quarter handicap allowance, and the competition will be held in two divisions, 0-14 and 15-28, according to Devanand Kurup, the tournament coordinator.

“The top three winners in each division will be presented with attractive trophies along with the Best Gross. There are also prizes for the longest drive and nearest to the pin winners. The presentation will be followed a gala dinner,” he added.

Interested golfers may contact the golf reservation desk at the Dubai Creek Golf and Yacht Club for registration.
