India I-Day cricket tournament

The India Independence Day seven-a-side cricket festival, sponsored by Al Wahda Construction for the 11th year in a row, will be held on Friday, September 7, to celebrate India’s Independence Day, organisers announced yesterday.

The cricket festival is also supported by Freddy Sidhwa of Seven Seas. The day-long event, featuring 6 B division teams, will be played at the Seven Seas ground and is conducted by Seven Seas Sports Club. “We are, indeed, delighted to be associated with a festive event being held to mark India’s Independence Day,” Deepak Arora, managing director of Al Wahda Construction, said. The cricket festival, organised by senior UAE umpire Tariq Butt, will be played on the knock out basis. Matches begin at 7.30am.
