The day began with Wings winning the toss and putting in Dubai Lions to bat first in a crucial Group B match that would decide the outcome of the group and the finalist team.

Lions’ batsman had to face stiff bowling from Glenn Querl and Tom Driver. They started slow and played cautiously at 44 for 1 in 20 overs before losing opener Naveed Safdar for 13. He got a good ball from quick bowler Nabiullah and edged it to the keeper.

Lions’ run rate remained at 2 to 2.5 an over as their target was to bat out the maximum 75 overs. Batting to play out overs eventually got the better of them as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Skipper Waqas consolidated the innings and crossed his half-century but was running out of partners to carry his innings forward.

It was eventually a ninth wicket partnership of 68 runs between Waqas and Atiq Shabbir (26) that ensured Dubai Lions went past 200 while Waqas notched up his century. He batted for 208 minutes and showed his nerves against a good bowling line up. His score of 103 not out off 166 balls included nine boundaries and 2 sixes.

Quickie Glenn Querl bowled his heart out taking 5 wickets after bowling 28 overs.

Wings SRT began their innings and were settling in at 17 for no loss in 7 overs before losing their opener Ishtiaq Ghori for 5, LBW by Habib Ghazi. 4 runs later, Ashfaq Ahmed was caught behind for 16 off a swinging Akash Afridi delivery. In came Nardeep Singh and was bowled first ball by Akash. Tottering at 21 for 3, the onus was on Wings skipper Charles Coventry and Alcindo Holder to revive the innings.

They counter attacked, scoring heavily in the following overs to put pressure on the Lions’ bowling. Eventually, Wings SRT ended the day on 138 for 3 in 24 overs. Charles is batting on 61 while Alcindo is on 56.

The Test Series is sponsored by Danube while co sponsors are Emax and Delhi Darbar. The event is managed by Cricon Sports Services.
