Chairman’s Cup to feature 16 teams

16 teams have confirmed their participation for the Dubai Cricket Council’s (DCC) Chairman’s Cup which gets under way from March 21 at the Fairgrounds of Dubai Men’s College, according to a Press release.

The teams that will be seen in action over Friday’s and Saturday’s in this 30-overs-per-side tournament are Danube Lions, Danube Tigers, Grand MidWest (GMW), Al Faraa, Yogi Group, Fly Emirates, Farooq CC, Interface, Multiplex, Ibsons, Phoenix Medicines, Nucaf Tellicherry, Seven Seas Srikers, ECB Blues, Boom Boom Thakkar CC and Globelinlk West Star Shipping.

These teams will be clubbed into four groups with the top two teams making the quarter-finals followed by the top four teams making the semi-finals and then on to the final with the winner taking away Dh12,500 and the runner-up Dh6,000. A few rules need to be followed by the teams. A maximum of 18 players per team would be allowed to play in the entire tournament. It’s also a must that a player play in at least one match in a the league or knock-out round in order to be eligible to play in the final.

The organising committee has made it very clear that players on visit, tourist, mission and transit visas would not be allowed to play. Only registered players of registered teams would be allowed. The tournament is set to start on March 21.
