ANF All Stars take off in Berry Hills IBSL

Defending champions ANF All Stars recorded their first win in the Berry Hills 9th Indian Basketball Society League (IBSL) Tournament. The All Stars, starting strong in this year’s IBSL chapter, shot down Nucaf Beatrice Dubai 86-62 in the opening men’s division encounter. Baven Kuruvila opened the score for All Stars followed by Sidheek Razak.

The game was a close fixture as both the teams traded baskets throughout the first quarter. Though Beatrice led 20-19 in the first quarter, experienced All Stars pulled away in the remaining three quarters and rolled to the victory.

For the winners, Roger accounted for 25 points and Sidheek Razak 21. Zaheer and Joseph answered with 13 each for Nucaf Beatrice. Knights cruised past City Fives 83-52, after leading in all the four quarters: 14:11; 22:15; 22:9 and 25:17.

In the under 19 inter school division, Our Own High School-Al Warqa got the better of The Model School, Abu Dhabi 64-43.

At half time Our Own led 30-24 as Renston Cresta top scored for Our Own with 21 while Moosa Ashraf netted 21 for The Model School-Abu Dhabi.

The teams on the opening day of the ninth IBSL were introduced to the main dignitaries which included Padmashri Dr Azad Moopen who inaugurated the event; Sameer K. Mohammed, managing director of Jaleel Holdings; Sunny Kurian, managing director of Dr Sunny Health Care Group and Dr Meera Kurian, and IBSL and match officials.
