No chants were made and there were no banners nor placards but onlookers did not miss the message
Abu Dhabi: Al Ain coach Zlatko Dalic was pleased that his side could put their AFC Champions League loss behind to log their first points in the Arabian Gulf League.
Ten-man Al Ain, who had suffered a 3-0 loss to Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal in the semifinal of the AFC Champions League last week, defeated Al Wasl 2-0 to open their campaign in the League at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain, late on Saturday night.
“We knew it would be a tough match after our match in Riyadh. But we scored an important victory,” Dalic said.
“It was a stressful match for us. We played 30 minutes with 10 players against Al Hilal after our goalkeeper Khalid Eisa was sent off. And, we again played with 10 men for 33 minutes after Mohammed Ahmed’s second yellow card,” he added
The Croatian said that they need to improve for the next game against Ajman on Thursday. “I’m happy that we hit our target and won the three points. But we can be better and should be at our best in the coming matches. As a coach, I know a local match after a loss in the Champions League would be difficult. But we could overcome the challenge,” he said.
