9Ball ME billiards set for takeoff

The final phases of the main draw of the Dh100,000 prize fund Middle East 9Ball Open Championship will be held at the Dubai Mall after the qualifying rounds at the JW Marriott Hotel in Deira, a Press release said.

The group matches will commence at the JW Marriott Hotel on July 7 while the concluding rounds will be held at the Dubai Mall ice skating rink on July 12 and 13.

One hundred and twenty eight players will take part, organisers said, adding, “Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Azerbaijan and Cyprus will also be represented apart from the UAE, the Middle East countries and other Arab nations.

There will be 32 groups of four players each with the top two from each group qualifying to the knock-out stages. Florian ‘Venom’ Kohler of France, a trick shot player is also scheduled to exhibit his skills.

Sultan Al Joker, general secretary, UAEBSA and Khalid Al Mazrouei, tournament director were among the senior officials during the announcement, late Sunday night.
