This amount of money represents the value of customs tariff levied on goods that entered those countries via customs outlets in the UAE, the FCA said on Wednesday, adding that this brings to about Dh .315 billion the total of customs duties transferred by the authority over a period of six years — January 1, 2003 until the end of September 2009.

The total value of imports that entered GCC member states via UAE ports and customs outlets went up to over Dh62 billion over the same period. He said the value of goods imported by GCC countries through UAE customs outlets highlighted the pivotal role of UAE customs offices in stepping up trade in GCC member states. The growing volume of imports by GCC countries reflected the GCC countries’ all-out development plans.

Shaza bin Fares, head of clearance, FCA, noted that Saudi Arabia had the lion’s share of the transferred tariffs standing at Dh231.9 million in the January-July period. Total funds worth Dh1.1 billion were given to Saudi Arabia in the last six years.

“The UAE transferred Dh151.9 million to Oman, Dh146.2 million to Qatar, Dh45.4 million to Kuwait and Dh 33.4 million to Bahrain,” she added. —
