UAE promotes global growth

Re-affirming its commitment to work alongside countries around the world in order to achieve sustainable development and promote global economic growth, the UAE participated in the Group of 77 (G77) and China meetings, which were held in the Republic of  Bolivia.

Based on the directives of Shaikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, led the UAE delegation, which included a number of leading figures and employees from the Ministry of Finance (MoF) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

During the meetings, the Republic of Fiji passed the G77 and China presidency to the Republic of Bolivia. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the G77 and China, the summit covered several topics and issues of common interest to the group members, including strengthening the role of member countries on the global development agenda beyond 2015, as well as highlighting the needs of developing countries in terms of enhancing their sustainable development.

Al Tayer expressed his happiness to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the group and stressed the UAE’s commitment to continue providing its full support in order to promote joint action and cooperation between various countries around the world.

He said: “The UAE’s participation reflects its strong commitment to support developing countries, which is evident through the role of the country in both establishing various international groups and being a member. The UAE stressed the importance of adopting strategies to achieve the necessary development foundations for the new era, which includes ensuring food security and agricultural development, enhancing the UN agencies such as the Food and Agriculture Organization, the World Food Programme and the International Fund for Agricultural Development.”
