Sony unveils innovative Z2 smartphone and tablet

Xperia Z2 is a new Sony powerhouse with features and designed to compete with Samsung Galaxy S5 and iPhone 6.

Sony Mobile Communications Middle East and Africa unveiled a series of new and innovative products portfolio for the first half of 2014 including ‘The best of Sony’ Xperia Z2 smartphone and Xperia Z2 tablet in Dubai late Wednesday.

Both the devices are expected to reach UAE stores by the end of this April after its official launch in the Mobile World Congress (MWC), which was held in Barcelona last month.

The smartphone will be priced at Dh2,699 while tablet will be available with a price tag of Dh2,499 in the UAE, top regional officials told reporters at the launch news conference.

Xperia Z2 is Sony’s best ever premium waterproof smartphone combining its best ever display, sound, camera and 4K camcorder recording experience as well as an exclusive entertainment offer and a growing ecosystem of companion products.

Xperia Z2 is a new Sony powerhouse with features and designed to compete with Samsung Galaxy S5 and iPhone 6. Sony officials highlighted that what other smartphone makers do not offer, the water and dust-proof features. Since its waterproof, users can use Z2 under the rain.

With the launch of new smartest smartphone, the company’s objective is to become top three mobile phone manufacturers, Sony Mobile Communications Middle East and Africa vice-president Ruediger Odenbach said. “We have the best product,” Odenbach added.

The company’s regional business director Izzat Kittaneh said that the company hopes Z2 sales would be double compared to Xperia Z1, explaining that this is the trend the company had seen since the launch of Xperia Z. More than 400,000 devices had been shipped to this region since October last year, Kittaneh added. Xperia Z2 tablet, which was also launched in last MWC, was unveiled in Dubai. It seems to compete with Nexus 10, iPad and other tablets with 10 inches display. The tablet version of Z2 runs in Android 4.4.2 Kitkat operating system and coming with the same water and dust-resistant features.

Sony says the Xperia Z2 smartphone comes with the world’s best camera and camcorder in a waterproof smartphone with Sony’s proven camera technologies such as award-winning G Lens, 20.7 MP ‘Exmor RS for mobile’ CMOS image sensor and ‘BIONZ for mobile’ image processing engine.

It captures video in 4K resolution with SteadyShot, complemented by new Xperia camera apps such as Timeshift video and new AR effect.

It provides brightest and most vivid viewing experience ever on 5.2-inch Full HD Triluminos Display for mobile with Live Colour LED powered by X-Reality for mobile.

The company claims the world’s first Digital Noise Cancelling Technology in this smartphone for an immersive audio experience.

It comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor with 2.3 GHz quad-core Krait CPUs and 4G LTE for fast performance, 3GB RAM and high capacity 3200 mAh battery in an 8.2mm slim smartphone.

Sony says Xperia Z2 Tablet is the world’s first tablet display with Live Colour LED for the best entertainment viewing experience.

The company claims the world’s fastest processor in a tablet featuring the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor combined with Sony’s leading battery performance.
