SkyCargo boosts capacity with new 777F

SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, has significantly boosted its total cargo capacity and expanded its dedicated freighter network with the addition of three new Boeing 777F aircraft.

The three new freighters, each capable of carrying up to 103 tonnes of cargo, takes SkyCargo’s freighter fleet to 10 aircraft and its dedicated freighter network to 12 destinations. These are Taipei, Chittagong, Eldoret, Lilongwe, Kabul, Almaty, Gothenburg, Zaragoza, Viracopos, Tripoli, Djibouti and Liege. A fourth new Boeing 777 freighter will join the fleet in March this year.

“Our dedicated freighter fleet, coupled with our cargo capacity on our passenger fleet of 185 wide-bodied aircraft that flies to 128 destinations in 74 countries, gives us connectivity to the trade routes of the world,” said Ram Menen, Emirates divisional senior vice-president Cargo.

Kuwait Airways to buy 20 
new planes

Kuwait’s national carrier plans to buy up to 21 new aircraft over the next two years after parliament on Wednesday passed a key bill transforming it into a commercial company, its chairman said.

“Initially we plan to replace the current old fleet of 17 aircraft. We look to purchase 20-21 new aircraft within the next two years, and the process will be gradual,” Sami Al Nasef said.
