Dubai — Firoz Merchant, the founder and chairman of award-winning jewellery retailer Pure Gold Jewellers, is ranked 25th on the Forbes list of the Top 100 Indian Business Leaders this year.

“It is a great honour to be recognised by Forbes and to share the platform with Indian business leaders in the GCC who have contributed to the economic growth of this region. I believe there is no easy formula to success, but hard work, determination and belief in yourself can get you into places you could only once dream of. We have expanded from a single store in Dubai to 125 stores across 12 countries in three continents, and we aim to keep our family growing with 450 outlets worldwide by 2020.Our pivotal objective is to become a global entity,” said Merchant.

Merchant is a board member of the Dubai Diamond Exchange.

A man with a golden heart, Merchant believes in giving back to the community. Being acknowledged globally for his humanitarian work in repatriating insolvent prisoners in UAE prisons by paying off their debt or airfare, his corporate social responsibility activities include support to the Red Crescent Society, Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Chartiable Trust, Bait-ul-Khair, UAE Education Ministry, UAE Health Ministry and Zakat Fund Abu Dhabi.

Working closely with the government and various charities, he helped about a total of 4,500 prisoners, spending a total of $1.5 million to settle their dues. Apart from that, he also contributes to philanthropic causes in developing countries.
