Regional entertainment network OSN and ICT services provider Huawei has signed a deal to deliver Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) solution which enables telecom operators to offer a state-of-the-art TV experience alongside premium content.
Sun Xiaofeng, vice-president of Huawei Middle East, said in Middle East, still a lot of operators who are not starting video business or still in the initial stage were facing the main challenge of how to plan and operate video as basic service; how to acquire content and compete with satellite; how to create an inspiring and immersive user experience to increase willingness to consume video and how to continuous keep pace with end user's interests and create more value-from video business.
"We are looking for the opportunity in high definition video due to the fast network improvement in Middle East. We know both 4K live channel and 4K video-on-demand content has increased four-fold over the past two years. We can also see some important events in the video industry. For example, all the 2018 Russian World Cup matches broadcast live in 4K. Until now, nearly 70 per cent of all Hollywood films are produced in 4K and Sony Films produces 100 per cent of their films in 4K," said Xiaofeng.
Neil Martin, chief commercial officer, OSN said this partnership will help to provide telecom operators, and ultimately the customers, with world-class entertainment in a convenient and efficient way.
"Mena telecom operators will have access to an agile end-to-end IPTV solution, composed of Huawei's IPTV technology and OSN's wide range of linear and on demand content. This partnership will enable telecom operators to deliver IPTV services to market faster, and capitalise on opportunities to maximise revenues as they acquire subscribers. We expect this solution to become an engine of growth for OSN, Huawei and the wider broadcast industry in this region as connectivity improves across the region," Martin said.
