Nokia phones lead the UAE market: TRA

Nokia is the market leader in the UAE mobile phone market in the second quarter of the year, according to the market data provided by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA).

The authority has revealed the second quarter findings of the ‘Smart Phone and Mobile Operating Systems’ review undertaken to identify the most popular mobile phone handsets. The UAE focused analysis assesses the market share mobile handsets and operating systems.

The report shows Nokia products continue to be the most popular handsets in the UAE as out of the top five most popular handsets used in the country, the Nokia produced four.

In terms of the percentage of handsets by model, the Nokia 1280/1282 leads the way with 3.9 , followed by the Nokia 101/1010 with 3.6 per cent, the Nokia X1 with 3.3 per cent, the Nokia E5 three per cent and the Samsung S III had 2.6 per cent market.

Tom Farrell, vice-president, Nokia Middle East, said: “We are happy with the results of TRA’s Q2 report which reiterates Nokia’s continued leadership in terms of brand loyalty and consumer preference in the UAE. This is testament to the fact that Nokia is as relevant today as it was and we are delivering products that consumers demand and creating new brand advocates every day.”

In terms of mobile manufactures as of June 2013, Nokia currently enjoys the largest market share with 56.4 per cent, followed by Samsung with 13.8 per cent. Blackberry had 10.7 per cent market stake while Apple with 7.4 per cent, in the three month period ended June 30.

Out of the total number of mobile handsets registered on networks in the UAE, smartphone penetration as of June 2013 stands at 44 per cent.
