The conference is being held on the sidelines of ‘Made in India’ show, which starts today. The three-day exhibition of Indian products is also being jointly organised by Anand Trade Development Services of Mumbai, MEDC, GMBF, A2Z events from Dubai and over 40 organisations of Indian community in Dubai.

Jayant Patil, Minister for Rural Development, Government of Maharashtra, will inaugurate the show on Friday and the one-day conference on Saturday. The first one was held in Dubai in April 2010. “The forum is very optimistic of registering a double-digit growth in this year’s business compared to last year. With our registered 250 members, we are expecting a successful conference and are planning to replicate the same success in Thailand in January 2013,” Dr Sunil V. Manjarekar, president, Gulf Maharashtra Business Forum, said. This year’s conference in Dubai will mainly cover four areas — healthcare, export opportunities in UAE, agriculture and IT.

“The show will focus on the consumer products and services from different parts of India. Handicrafts from India will also be displayed at the exhibition,” Meenal Mohadikar, vice-president of Maharashtra Economic Development Council, said.

“Over 60 companies have already confirmed their participation. Some of the focus areas in service sector will be higher education, tourism and medical tourism. Prominent educational institutions like Mumbai Education Trust (MET) and Indian Education Society (IES) will also attend the event. Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) has also shown interest in participation,” added Mohadikar.

“As Dubai is a free port, this is a major opportunity for the small and medium Indian businesses for export. Similarly, Indian people settled in Dubai will have a chance to do their Diwali shopping of Indian products at the shoppe. The Shoppe exhibition will showcase textiles, food products, gift articles, readymade garments, imitation jewellery, cosmetics, herbal products, leather products,” added Manjarekar.
