Dubai: Italian cosmetics brand Bottega Verde plans to cross the 500 mark for its stores across the globe in 2015 including 20 in Gulf countries on rising demand for beauty products, its chief executive officer Benedetto Lavino told Khaleej Times in an interview.

Established in 1972, Bottega Verde is the leading Italian brand in the production and sale of cosmetics made with natural ingredients.

The company forayed into the UAE market last year with the opening of its first store in Abu Dhabi. This year the Italian firm opened one store in Sharjah and another in Al Ain. Surprisingly, it has no store in Dubai at the moment.

“We will open [a store] in Dubai by the end of this year,” Lavino said. “We have a presence in Bahrain and recently opened one in Oman,” he added.

Talking about the company’s 20-store target in the GCC, he said: “We will open 10 shops in Saudi Arabia this year and will meet our target of 20 stores in Gulf countries by the end of this year.”

Regarding the performance of the company’s stores in GCC, Lavino said: “All stores are doing very well as our products are based on natural ingredients and very well-accepted in these countries.”

Dubai-based Apparel Group, a global fashion and lifestyle brand conglomerate, is Bottega Verde’s partner in the region.

The group operates brands from around the world originating from the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia and Asia, and includes leading names such as Tommy Hilfiger, Aldo, Nine west, Dune London, Skechers, Aeropostale, The Children’s Place, Tim Hortons and Charles & Keith, to name a few.

Bottega Verde is currently crossing national borders and reaching out to the international market, offering it the values of natural Italian beauty and the excellence of a brand focused on incorporating the efficiency of over 300 natural active principles with the sensorial perception and pleasant nature of the products, its distinguishing feature.

A majority of Bottega Verde stores are located in its home market Italy and a very few in other parts of the world.

The company has 414 stores in Italy and 70 in other markets, according to the chief executive.

“Right now we have 484 stores and we want to reach more than 500 stores by the end of this year,” he emphasised.

Last year, the company reported €160 million in sales. Its number of products in the range are more than 800.

Furthermore, the company has more than six million loyal customers and one million Facebook fans.

The company’s products are developed in the Bottega Verde laboratory by a team of in-house cosmetologists who work with the best universities in Italy.

The CEO mentioned that the company has enough manufacturing facility to meet the export demand.

“We have two production facilities. We have one facility for more than 80 per cent of our cosmetics products and another for fragrance products. We do have space to scale up, if needed,” he explained.
