Dubai Airport Freezone 
posts 63% H1 sales surge

DUBAI — Dubai Airport Freezone announced on Tuesday a 63 per cent sales surge in the first half of 2010 compared to the same 2009 period.

The freezone, which has completed 14 years of operation, said in a statement that it could post an 80 per cent increase in number of companies that have doubled their investments in the first half with a 64 per cent increase in office space leased. The freezone’s operating profits recorded a 11 per cent surge above target.

Shaikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman of Dubai Airport Freezone, said the impressive growth underscored the healthy business environment in Dubai. “It also shows the interest of international companies to establish their operations in the country.”

This achievement will further encourage the freezone to do more for its international clients in terms of the quality of services and the facilities we provide, said Shaikh Ahmed

Dubai Airport Free Zone has been named the best Free Zone in the Middle East region and second in the world by the premier Foreign Direct Investment Magazine of Financial Times Ltd. Apart from this award, the freezone also won the second place in the “Best Transport Links” in the world.

Shaikh Ahmed said that the strategic location and world-class facilities, apart from customer focus and quality services, have driven the growth of the freezone as a sought-after economic zone in the region.

“We are very much aware of the fact that the international investments are considered to be an essential factor in the growth and development of global and national economies, therefore we will continue to improve the investment environment and create strategic partnership with foreign investors,” he said.

Shaikh Ahmed said Dubai Airport Freezone would like to remain as a preferred investment destination “through excellence, commitment and creativity.”

“The increase in the number of American and European companies in the first six months by 50 per cent underlines the innovative services and facilities Dubai Airport Freezone offers to its clients,” said Shaikh Ahmed.

The freezone will soon be adding a new office complex featuring new facilities including a business centre and food outlet, which will certainly offer a more convenient service to our tenants. Among other remarkable achievements of Dubai Airport Freezone was the winning of “Dubai Quality Appreciation Programme Award. The Dubai Airport Freezone has a vital and strategic role to play in attracting international companies with qualitative and value-added investments to the emirate of Dubai.

A number of American and European companies have recently initiated their operations in the freezone. They include the US-based Chatsworth Products International, Roxul Rockwool Technical Insulation Middle East of Denmark and Bruker Middle East from Switzerland.
