Chanel to show its collection in Dubai

Dr Amina Al Rustamani, group CEO of Tecom Investments, the developer behind Dubai Design District, said: “We thank Lagerfeld and Chanel for their visionary support to Dubai’s growing fashion and design industry. Dubai was chosen because it inspires travel and evokes the true spirit of Cruise. The show that we will hold in this city on May 13, in the presence of Karl Lagerfeld, will be a unique event that will feed the public’s imagination around our brand.”

Chanel’s decision reflects the growing momentum of Dubai’s design and fashion scene, and follows the June 2013 launch of Dubai Design District – a dedicated creative hub at the heart of the region’s design community – and the August 2013 establishment of the Design and Fashion Council by the decree of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.

The Design and Fashion Council is mandated, among other things, to oversee the delivery of a comprehensive strategy that will guide the growth and development of the emirate’s fashion industry, as well as plan and execute events related to the design and fashion sector.
