Paria Rafi Ghorashi is the co-founder and CEO of Blowout&Go, a UAE-based mobile hairstyling service, and has previously worked in the fashion industry for almost two decades. Here's how the spirited entrepreneur maintains a work-life balance.
Spending time with my daughter
However busy I am with work, I always find time for my daughter Sofia. Once a week, we have a special mother-daughter day, when we do whatever Sofia would like to do. Sometimes we have our nails done, other times we go to the cinema or go swimming. These days are an incredibly important part of my relationship with my daughter and I ensure my work-life balance always leaves time for her.
Horse Riding
Ever since I was young, I have always loved horses, and I have recently resumed riding. At least once a week, after I drop my daughter at school, I head down to The Dubai Polo and Equestrian Club to ride. Having grown up in Norway, I love the great outdoors and the freedom I feel when I ride.
Swimming
Growing up, my family was very sporty, with my late father having swum in the Olympics. In fact, I think I learnt to swim before I could even walk! I find being in the water very peaceful, especially since it reminds me of my father who I lost four years ago. With how busy everything gets, I don't find the time to swim every day like I used to. However, I make it a point to hit the pool every other day.
Taking part in Charity Work
Having grown up in fortunate circumstances, I have always believed in giving back to those less fortunate than myself. As a board member and ambassador for the Autism Trust Foundation, I regularly visit their facilities and see how the money we raise is being spent.
Cooking
I generally love cooking, and find it a great way to relax after a busy day. I love simple yet tasty food, especially Mediterranean food, although having Norwegian roots make it hard to say no to salmon! I believe taste is important so I avoid using too many spices. That way, I can experience the full flavour of the ingredients used.
Staying up-to-date with the fashion world
Having spent almost two decades working in the fashion industry, I love keeping myself up-to-date with the latest news and trends. During the events season, I regularly attend fashion shows and try to mentor and support up-and-coming designers whenever I can.
