For many children, a trip to the dentist is far from routine. Crying, refusing to open their mouth, or throwing a tantrum are all familiar reactions. Studies show that dental fear in children can be triggered not only by pain, but also by separation from parents, meeting unfamiliar people, or simply being in an unfamiliar environment.

Dubai-based pediatric dentist Dr Imneet Madan believes such fear can be overcome. Her debut book, The Calm Chair Method, set to launch in Dubai early next month, outlines a structured approach to making dental visits calmer and more collaborative for children.

“A child may cry in the dental chair for the very first time, but anytime after is alterable,” said Dr Madan, who has been practising in Dubai for 18 years. As both a pediatric dentist and NeuroCoach, she focuses on behaviour management that goes beyond conventional techniques, using tools for communication, sensory alignment and subconscious healing to turn the dental chair into “a space of emotional safety and confidence-building.”

The method draws on evidence-based psychology and integrative wellness, including Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) child development principles, Buteyko breathing, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Theta Healing, and Psych-K®. “It serves as a designated blueprint for anyone who works with children,” she said. “What gets worded, gets addressed.”

Dr Madan claims to be the GCC’s only full-time practitioner of needle-free dentistry for children. She holds a Master’s in Pediatric Dentistry from Rajiv Gandhi University in India, a Master’s in Laser Science from Aachen University in Germany, and advanced certifications from institutions in the US, UK, Finland and Austria.

The book took a year to write and distills a decade of her NeuroCoach work into 180 pages, featuring patient testimonials and case studies. It has already been presented internationally, including at the Cyprus Laser Dental Conference in June 2025. Dr Madan will also present The Calm Chair Method as a keynote speaker at upcoming international dental conferences.

Beyond her practice, she co-hosts a YouTube music channel with her children, Shirene and Yuvraj, which has been active since 2017 and is nearing one million subscribers. She also hosts a regular podcast, Uncommon, sharing “stories of common people.”
