The article 'Be Watchful of your kids watching those violent video games' (KT, Nov 18) posed certain issues that need deep introspection and prompt action as the damage has been already done. Kids live in a confusing world hardly knowing the difference between the real and virtual. The constant exposure to video games and unrealistic expectations from parents and society in general have led to psychiatric emergencies that remain unnoticed until a grave event occurs. Therefore, measures to ensure sound mental health of kids become imperative.
The joys of human interaction, the essence of human bonding, the value of human compassion and consideration and the attitude of acceptance of flavourful differences among human beings have been pushed to the rear seat. Indifference and callousness have become the order of the day. No guiding philosophy of life or spiritual identity can hold the kids back anchoring them securely. Therefore, the onus rests on society to highlight the essential human qualities without which the edifice of human living would crumble eventually.
